  • Most Embarrassing Musical Moment: When I used to have hair, one time in a moment of pure spirited rocking, a tendril of hair went into my mouth and stuck to my gum. I had sweaty hair and gum hitting me in the face for the rest of that song.
  • Favorite Venue: The Greek Theater in Berkeley, CA
  • Instruments Played: guitar, bass, piano, assorted keyboards, pedal steel, banjo, ukulele, mandolin
  • Words to live by: "Stay close to any sounds that make you glad you are alive." – Hafiz; "Treat everyone you meet like God in drag." – Ram Dass; "Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere." – Albert Einstein

  • Most Embarrassing Musical Moment: It was one of my first gigs with k.d. when I played an Fm(sus)b9 chord in the middle of “Hallelujah.” For those of you who don’t know that chord, it looks the way it sounds! Ha!
  • Favorite Venue: Bogart’s Back Room in Richmond. It’s a dark, dingy, smoky jazz club where I basically learned to play music – if those walls could talk! Side note, this is also where I met the love of my life, so there’s that!
  • Instruments Played: piano, organ, guitar, bass, drums, trumpet, and the occasional go at “the chick magnet,” k.d.’s banjo
  • Words to live by: "Everything in moderation, especially moderation."

  • Hometown: West Chester, PA
  • Resume: Gigolo Aunts, Ben Kweller, Juliana Hatfield, Dixie Chicks, The Wallflowers, Court Yard Hounds
  • Most Embarrassing Musical Moment: I've made lots of mistakes musically, but I'm never really embarrassed by them. They actually make me feel better for some reason. I don't embarrass easily.
  • Favorite Venue: Whichever one I'm playing at that moment, if it's full of happy people.
  • Instruments Played: drums, percussion, a few chords on guitar. I can play indie rock bass.
  • Words to live by: "Thankfully, persistence is a great substitute for talent." – Steve Martin

Josh Grange

  • Hometown: Hollywood, CA
  • Resume: Dwight Yoakam, Dixie Chicks, Victoria Williams, Rachael Yamagata, The Jayhawks, Mandy Moore, Shannon McNally, Daniel Clarke
  • Most Embarrassing Musical Moment: Being drunk and out of tune playing with Adam Cohen in his hometown of Montreal while his father Leonard watched. It was my first time drinking scotch, and is probably why I am so fond of it.
  • Favorite Venue: A tie between The Ryman in Nashville and The Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.
  • Instruments Played: guitar, steel guitar, banjo, piano
  • Words to live by: "All things in moderation, including moderation."; "Some people walk in the rain; other people just get wet." -Roger Miller

  • Most Embarrassing Musical Moment: I was playing electric guitar with Mindy Smith at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, and I started a tune off in the wrong key. Imagine a signature guitar lick played a half step up from the rest of the band - I wanted to cry.
  • Favorite Venue: All the old concert halls and theaters, like The Ryman and The Fillmore. The Stone Mountain Arts Center is beautiful and intimate, especially in a blizzard. The Basement in Nashville is a great small venue.
  • Instruments Played: bass, acoustic & electric guitar, mandolin, bouzouki, banjo, tenor guitar
  • Words to live by: "The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy." - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr
